When I first saw the Facebook page to Soap & Glory, it gave me instant ‘fun’ vibes. With its white and pink base platform, the website gives off this 1950’s-Betty Page-fun-bubblegum-bad girl vibe and it only makes me want to stroll through the website further. Soap & Glory is a beauty company consisting of makeup, skincare, and beauty products. Here are some:
Oh my goodness, don’t you just love the pun-play with the words? Its makes to company seem so quirky and vibrant. Created by a group of geniuses in 2006 in the wonderful lands of England, this company has spread all over the world like you would not believe, showing up everywhere right here in the United States. Can’t find their store? Don’t worry about it, they are in Ulta, Target, Walgreens, Sephora, Walmart, Amazon……need I say more? Gurl, you gotta check them out ✨
So one of my Instagram followers suggested that I attempt to do an unboxing via ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). Without getting too technical, this is the process of, when used on video, used to ‘massage’ your brain. So your get this mental massage through a series of ‘triggers’ like nail-tapping, the sound of brushing hair, whispering, etc. Well, trying to do it was so FUNNY for me!!!! Despite the fact that I failed at it miserably, I think I’ll do it again in the future…only because it was fun and a loyal subscriber requested it. Enjoy watching me being silly 😎
Also known as Twitch.tv, this is a new platform that accommodates streaming videos and live streaming chats as well. Sound familiar doesn’t it? I know it does because it’s another up and coming platform that may possibly rival YouTube in the future. Now that this may seem interesting to you as it is to me, especially with me being a YouTuber, but doesn’t it seem like a rival is brewing between Google and Amazon on numerous playing fields. To be honest, I think that Amazon is starting to look at things in a broader business perspective, since they partially bought Whole Foods overnight. I mean, who does that???? Amazon does and we haven’t seen the likes of it before. Now let’s get a little more in-depth with this platform.
Twitch.tv launched its platform officially online in 2011, which was a spinoff of Justin.tv, but with a wider based platform. So…wanna know what I heard? Evidently, Google tried to do what they do best, just like a sugar daddy…come in and just buy the place up, but nope. Amazon apparently came in a provided a counter-bid and, from what I heard, a lesser amount.
Upcoming live streams we are hearing through the grapevine? Blizzard!!! Check out Rhykker on YouTube for news on the potential gaming stream information, as I will be looking out for it too. While usually made to platform for gamers, there is an area of community creators who do other things, such as makeup videos.
Right now with its current platform setting, finding other things to view other than gaming requires additional effort that is not usually expected for a regular subscriber. Keeping our fingers crossed for the platform to expand and update, making maneuvering around the website easier.
Throughout my travels in an unbiased quest to bring to my audience fashion and the unique designers behind them, my recent travels took me into the city of Chicago, affectionately known as the ‘Heart of America’. My destination in the Windy City? Midwest Fashion Week of course, which was founded and guided by Mr. Berny Martin.
As a fan of Mr. Martin’s work, I have followed Midwest Fashion Week over the years as they have acquired numerous mentions in notable magazines such as IndyStar.com (USA Today), ELLE Men, and Ok! Magazine. Midwest Fashion Week not only brings forth talent and visions via the runway, but also raises money for charities and non-profit organizations.
Mr. Martin is no ordinary Haitian-born gentleman with just ‘good taste’, but an international fashionrevolutionary in his own right. Notably a graduate of Purdue University, Berny Martin is also the Founder and CEO of Catou Wear, which serves on leaps and bounds beyond simply ‘made’ fashion designs.
Martin’s Catou Wear brings on a personalization of tailoring, sophistication, elegance and flare. His love and passion for customizing designs to compliment the client’s personality proves true, even in his own personal attire. A gentleman indeed and a lover of the craft, Berny Martin has been bringing stunning artistry to the runway all over the world. I personally came into contact with Catou Wear via Couture Fashion Week in 2015, Times Square, New York.
As I bring to you the designers of MidWest Fashion Week, please know that hard work, dedication and love of the art assisted Mr. Berny Martin and his team in making this magic come to life.
While on this journey of being a blogger, I’ve become further exposed to the venue that surrounds not only my audience as a blogger, but also my clients as a business owner. While I have found it fairly harder to get exposed to fashion in the southern region, I have found a way via Fashion Week in major cities. Last week was New Orleans Fashion Week, which was my very first as a contributor to this blog. What better way to start off providing fashion news than right in your own backyard. I loved it!
Another venue that has caught my attention is Austin Fashion Week. With this being the 10th Annual Fashion Week, also known as Fashion X Austin, I am sure Austin will have some striking venues and lineups for all who attend. The initial Fashion Week kickoff was on March 29th and was presented by KLRU and Austin City Limits with musical guests The Mrs. and SaulPaul. The fashion lineup came from ALBA and Leah Harris of Arie X AVIE .
Now, the week is going to be filled with a promise of excitement and fashion. Arie X AVIE’s trunk show which was March 30th, Soirees on 2nd on March 31st at 2nd Street District. Upcoming will be on April 4th as the official kickoff of Austin Fashion Week by Optique. I simply cannot wait to see what Austin has to offer to 2018’s year of fashion. Stay tuned and we will see it together!
Here’s a designer I had the pleasure of seeing on the runway for New Orleans Fashion Week…he goes by the name of Romey Roe. This celebrity designer attended the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Check him out and make sure you share with your friends about New Orleans Fashion Week!
Prior to going to my first Fashion Week event in New Orleans, I had a small hint of anxiety. Its almost like going to a new school on the other side of town. The surroundings are foreign, you find yourself a bit lost and unsure. But then……you see something that’s familiar….like the kid from your old school that transferred just like you did. Now the moment is erased of unease and has been replaced with a sense of propinquity.
That’s how I felt, walking into Fashion Week alone, not knowing anyone and trying to find my footing. As I watched the runway show and took photos, that sense of ease came when I heard the hostess announcing NOLA Couture. It was a company I knew of, pulling me into the moment, not only as a lonely, wondering blogger, but as a spectator, watching a place that I am familiar with be apart of the show. Speaking of the show, here’s my video of NOLA Couture and their runway collection for New Orleans Fashion Week 2018!
In my travels throughout my life, I’ve noticed that a person’s face, a song, a location, an aroma…..things like this can remind you of something. Often, we can remember things vividly with such things to aid us. When Beyonce came on the scene with the song ‘Diva’ and wore those iconic shades at the beginning of the video, I was in a trance. Never did I imagine that I would one day get to meet the mastermind behind that piece of work. Those shades were made by no other than the celebrity designer, Stevie Boi (StevieBoi.com).
You know I had to bring a little twist to the experience, all in love. Please enjoy my video, photos of the venue and the shade collection Stevie Boi brought to New Orleans Fashion Week 2018.
