Michael Kors buys Versace: Who’s getting elevated here?

Yes, I know some of you were wondering if I was going to say something about this. Okay, when I heard about the potential sale of Versace to Michael Kors a couple of days ago, I was in the airport trying to catch my flight. When I saw the tweets and then the articles this morning, I nearly choked on my breakfast. What was even more interesting were the reactions to these turn of events.

While most of us were hit with shock, awe, and excitement, I can truly say that Michael Kors has been on an aggressive climb in the world of fashion and business. So let’s be honest here: if Michael Kors was not considered a ‘giant’ in the fashion industry in the past, they are now. Not only with its recent acquiring of Versace, but a series of strategically-placed events. What some are forgetting is that this is not the first time in which Michael Kors has made a major investment within the fashion industry. Back in 2017, Michael Kors bought Jimmy Choo for an estimated £896 million ($1.1 billion). Now, while still expanding with stores all over the world, Michael Kors announced a deal to by the fashion house of Versace for an estimated $2.1 billion and then change the name of MKH Limited to Capri to couple with the expansion of its empire.
While this is a major reign of accomplishments for the American designer and his empire, some Versace fans were not too happy about the merg. When the news hit Twitter, there were a swarm of mixed feelings:

With the reading of Twitter, it seems fans are concerned with the potential downplay of the empire that is Versace, but I don’t see it happening. Check out Versace’s most recent collection at Milan Fashion Week

New products at Ulta 🧚🏽‍♀️

As what I love to do on at least a monthly basis is look at what products have come out at our favorite major makeup stores. Likely, you’ll get your makeup from about two of the following: Sephora, Ulta, Morphe, CVS, Walmart, or Walgreens. Well today, let’s check out the latest things that may have hit the Ulta stores. If you are big on social media, you may have seen some of these products.

DISCLAIMER: (Please keep in mind that we are observing the products themselves, and do not take into consideration of the people who are behind the products. Let’s be here for the makeup, fashion and love 💕).

*I can not wait until someone reviews this foundation.

* Come on now, NO CONS to this Urban Decay palette? I think we should wait a little longer to see because that’s not what I’ve been seeing on YouTube reviews 👀

*Hey, hey….all you get is 12 shades, so don’t shoot the messenger. I didn’t even bother looking at the reviews because can you consider the reviews to be diverse and unbiased? Come on Benefits Cosmetics!

* I had to double-check the price of this palette. $38.00 for a palette with only eight shades? THAT’S $4.75 PER SHADE! Gurl, I can not……the Venus XL palette: Screen Shot 2018-07-19 at 9.37.04 PM

This palette is $56.00 for 18 shades….that’s $3.11 for per shade. What is the deal with the price? Is this normal?????

You know what, I gotta take a break from this one for the day. I gotta say that I’m a bit shocked at the price of Lime Crime’s eyeshadow palette, especially since they are an online-only brand at Ulta. Is there anywhere that you can physically see this product before buying it or is it a private company?

Let me know in the comments below.

Allure Beauty Box: Why I cancelled 🤨

First, let me say that I know this post may be a hard pill to swallow for some but I will say that being honest is the best policy. If you’ve seen my YouTube videos or Snapchats, you’ll see that I have struggled with the meaning of the Allure Beauty Box monthly subscription. Allure Beauty Box provides its subscribers with samples of beauty and hair products from companies all over the world.

One advantage of the beauty box is that you are exposed to up and coming products, which under normal circumstances, you may not discover on your own. While this is at no fault of the shopper, we tend to habitually shop where we are comfortable and know we can get products we trust. This beauty box gives you a guilt-free opportunity to try new products without spending an exceedingly amount of money on products you are not familiar with.

I am personally a fan of European skincare products, which I have tried throughout my years as a young girl with my grandmother. With her abnormally refined taste and financial flexibility as a black woman for her era, my grandmother would have me try products like Estée Lauder and Lancôme and makeup from Chanel. For a young black girl in the 1980s in south Louisiana, it was definitely an amazing experience. Honestly, now that I look at it, it reminds me how unaware I was of the struggles going on around me. My grandparents endured I had a good life and allowed me to explore this world, free of worry. I thank them for that. Back to the topic at hand.

Allure+Beauty+Box+Sample

Having the Allure Beauty Box in hand gave me a sense of experimentation that I experienced in my younger years. I’ve gotten products that were extremely useful, even altering the way in which I use makeup and which products I use for skin rejuvenation. But I cannot deny the things that made me turn away from the program, like the lack of concern of who gets what products.

One of the issues I had was when I received an email a few days before my Beauty Box arrived, asking me which shade range I was so that I could be fitted for the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD liquid foundation sample. As a business owner, I get about 300 emails a day, it’s hard to consider that I could have responded to the email in time. When I did receive the beauty box for that month, it was still the incorrect shade. Did I answer the email too late?

Another situation happened recently and to be honest, my reaction was captured on my YouTube unboxing. I’ve thought twice about even posting it because I was so disappointed, but I will because it was the ‘nail in the coffin’. I’m a black woman. In south Louisiana, being black has very little to do with your skin color, as we are of French, Africa, Spanish, or Indian decent….most with a combination of all. But when I get a product for self-tanning, I’m curious to know how much thought was put into my beauty box.

I went into the website and realized that the Allure Beauty Box subscription consists of several beauty boxes a month. So…couldn’t Allure do a short profile to find out the skin type (normal, dry, oily) and shade range of its subscribers? I’ve received lipsticks in shades that were repulsive, which would have discouraged me from buying the product in store. And another thing that Allure does…why talk about products that are not even in the box??? That’s not fair…where is it? They aren’t part of the Beauty box.

So, in closing, I am sadly saying ‘goodbye’ to the Allure Beauty Box until they decide to do a profile on each of their customers, at least to determine which of the pre-made boxes for the month will likely to be suitable for each of their customers. I guess I would not have such an issue if it was free like Influenster, but I am paying for samples of products that I am likely not to use. It pains me because Allure has brought forth some amazing products in the past, but this brought me to the end of the road….at least for now.

New at Sephora

While some of us have seen some of these products on other websites or other stores, these are new for Sephora. Personally, I am shocked that Christian Louboutin decided to allow a major makeup store to carry their product. Check them out!

Who are they: Makeup Revolution London

An established but less-referenced makeup brand on the market is Makeup Revolution London. Established in Britain over 28 years ago, this brand is a constant in your local Ulta stores. Oddly, other than being in the Ulta store, the only place that the average person would have access to these products is online.  So what are they known for?

💃🏽💃🏽   High Quality. Cheap Prices. 🕺🏻🕺🏻

Sorry but I couldn’t put it any more tame than that. I gotta say that when it comes to luxury products, Makeup Revolution provides some amazing dupes. One of its famous:

Screen Shot 2018-06-04 at 11.32.36 PM
Makeup Revolution setting powder

Now this gorgeous little bottle of pixie dust comes in the shades Ghost, Lace, Banana, and Chestnut. Banana is the shade that is the one that’s more widely used in the makeup community. Just when your makeup prayers seemed to go unanswered.

While seemingly hard to find other then at Ulta and Amazon, it seems Makeup Revolution seems to come out with various makeup dupes that make you understand that they are not a simple duping company. Makeup Revolution provides quality, distinctive palettes, foundation shades, and amazing highlighters.

40 shades of Dior

My, my……what do we have here? It seems that the trend of 40 shades is starting to quickly catch on in the beauty community. Enter Dior with their Dior Backstage Face and Body foundation. So let’s get into the goodies about this new foundation on the block.

dior-foundation-1

According to Dior.com,

The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is the Dior makeup artists’ secret weapon to create an instantly flawless complexion with ultra-buildable coverage, from a natural nude glow to high-coverage perfection.

MAKEUP FINISH

The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is tested and approved by 100% of Dior professional makeup artists.* With its fluid texture and second skin finish, this ultra-buildable foundation offers custom-made intensity.

*** Extreme condition-proof for 91% of women.
** Photo-ready finish for 95% of women. (dior.com)

So along with this high percentage of being condition-proof, I’m not too sure what they are referring to. Is that saying its resistant to the heat or moisture?… if I hug a guy, I won’t get makeup on his shirt….if I brush too hard to take off my setting powder, will it stay put? That seems up for debate.

Now, here is what Dior says about the actual formula:

Enriched with beauty-enhancing pigments, the formula fuses with skin that glows for a perfect, natural complexion in real life and through the camera’s lens.

The waterproof formula of the Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation creates an invisible mesh on the skin and resists extreme conditions: workout sessions, water, extreme temperatures and humid environments. It even resists the bright lights both backstage and above the catwalk. (dior.com)

Now that, my friend, is a reason to really try this product out. Claims to have an ‘invisible mesh’ to the finish on the skin to counter the possible effects of sweat, water, and humidity…..gurl! It seems to be even flashback resistant. Wow! Here’s how they suggest you apply it:

Light nude coverage:
Use your fingers to gently dab 1 layer of foundation and massage onto face.Medium coverage:
Apply 2 layers with Light Coverage Foundation Brush N 11 from the center of the face outwards.Full perfection coverage:
Apply up to 3 layers of foundation in circular motions.

As much as I am beauty blender crazy, I would be willing to try this foundation with a brush. One of my issues with brush application is that the brush seems to soak up a lot of the product. Now the interesting thing that makes me want to try the product is that they suggest to apply it in a circular motion. Gurl…..WITH MY FINGER??????🤞🏽 Good luck with flawless application with that!
I would personally assume that applying in that motion would leave a streaky look, instead of an air-brushed or blended finish. While this foundation dries to a matte, I’m curious to know if it dries fast and resistant to transferring onto clothing.
While there are no reviews to assess yet, I’m expecting this product to be the newest addiction to the elegant Dior collection.

Laura Mercier….get real!

Okay so this post may be a bit touchy but, whatever, right? Anyone that has been in the makeup world for a while or has had their makeup done by professionals over the years can tell you that the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder is the standard. For some magical reason, it seems that no matter how good you are at doing your makeup, this translucent setting powder takes your beauty game to the next level. Even if you did not know what it was, you’ve seen the container. It seems that when you buy this powder, it lasts forever. Here’s a photo of it:

laura-mercier-translucent-loose-setting-powder

Yes. There she is  ↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑  The magical, unicorn dandruff called Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. Sigh…….

Well, what you are also likely to know, or after you take a trip to stores that carry this voodoo in a plastic container, is that its expensive too! Weighing into your purse at a whooping $38.00, it has been often discussed on which products are the valid dupes, saving us poor makeup geeks a few 💸💰  Here are the possibilities out there:
