Allure Beauty Box: Why I cancelled 🤨

First, let me say that I know this post may be a hard pill to swallow for some but I will say that being honest is the best policy. If you’ve seen my YouTube videos or Snapchats, you’ll see that I have struggled with the meaning of the Allure Beauty Box monthly subscription. Allure Beauty Box provides its subscribers with samples of beauty and hair products from companies all over the world.

One advantage of the beauty box is that you are exposed to up and coming products, which under normal circumstances, you may not discover on your own. While this is at no fault of the shopper, we tend to habitually shop where we are comfortable and know we can get products we trust. This beauty box gives you a guilt-free opportunity to try new products without spending an exceedingly amount of money on products you are not familiar with.

I am personally a fan of European skincare products, which I have tried throughout my years as a young girl with my grandmother. With her abnormally refined taste and financial flexibility as a black woman for her era, my grandmother would have me try products like Estée Lauder and Lancôme and makeup from Chanel. For a young black girl in the 1980s in south Louisiana, it was definitely an amazing experience. Honestly, now that I look at it, it reminds me how unaware I was of the struggles going on around me. My grandparents endured I had a good life and allowed me to explore this world, free of worry. I thank them for that. Back to the topic at hand.

Allure+Beauty+Box+Sample

Having the Allure Beauty Box in hand gave me a sense of experimentation that I experienced in my younger years. I’ve gotten products that were extremely useful, even altering the way in which I use makeup and which products I use for skin rejuvenation. But I cannot deny the things that made me turn away from the program, like the lack of concern of who gets what products.

One of the issues I had was when I received an email a few days before my Beauty Box arrived, asking me which shade range I was so that I could be fitted for the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD liquid foundation sample. As a business owner, I get about 300 emails a day, it’s hard to consider that I could have responded to the email in time. When I did receive the beauty box for that month, it was still the incorrect shade. Did I answer the email too late?

Another situation happened recently and to be honest, my reaction was captured on my YouTube unboxing. I’ve thought twice about even posting it because I was so disappointed, but I will because it was the ‘nail in the coffin’. I’m a black woman. In south Louisiana, being black has very little to do with your skin color, as we are of French, Africa, Spanish, or Indian decent….most with a combination of all. But when I get a product for self-tanning, I’m curious to know how much thought was put into my beauty box.

I went into the website and realized that the Allure Beauty Box subscription consists of several beauty boxes a month. So…couldn’t Allure do a short profile to find out the skin type (normal, dry, oily) and shade range of its subscribers? I’ve received lipsticks in shades that were repulsive, which would have discouraged me from buying the product in store. And another thing that Allure does…why talk about products that are not even in the box??? That’s not fair…where is it? They aren’t part of the Beauty box.

So, in closing, I am sadly saying ‘goodbye’ to the Allure Beauty Box until they decide to do a profile on each of their customers, at least to determine which of the pre-made boxes for the month will likely to be suitable for each of their customers. I guess I would not have such an issue if it was free like Influenster, but I am paying for samples of products that I am likely not to use. It pains me because Allure has brought forth some amazing products in the past, but this brought me to the end of the road….at least for now.

YouTube – Allure Beauty Box

For the past 3 or four months, I can honestly say there is a love/hate relationship between myself and the Allure Beauty Box. Like that great-aunt with the terrible garlic breath that you know is going to give you an awesome present for the holidays. Or that hideous relationship that you were absolutely happy ended but you missed the kisses. Its like….urgh! From the first box that I got, there was something in there for me and something in that box that totally made me want to pack it back up, put it in my car and drop it off at one of my friends’ house as a gift. Like what’s the point?

One of the many perks of getting the Allure Beauty Box is that it exposes you to beauty and skincare companies all over the world that you probably never heard of. You also get the chance to try products that have come out in makeup stores that you may have been a bit apprehensive of spending the money on trying.

There are numerous products that I’d wanted to try but did not want to spend the money on a possible makeup-fail. Products like the Eyeko’s ‘Eye Do’ Liquid Eyeliner, Make Up For Ever’s Artist Liquid Matte Liquid Lipstick, and Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector® Pressed Highlighter. Now one of the main issues (probably the only true issue) that I’ve had with Allure is that the products that are sent….I’m simply not interested in the skin products, only the makeup products.

Yes, I understand that I will very well miss out on the next best thing if I don’t keep myself open to all things but the makeup industry is what seems to be evolving the fastest. I mean, who can’t just use some Neutrogena and some H2O+ NightTime Moisture-Lock and call it a day for the skincare routine? I’m just saying gurl….Allure gotta step the makeup game up.

So you wanna know…me too🎁👢

So in the midst of my blogs, I had an idea. I’d been seeing videos about ways to install hair units and the ‘best’ and safe methods. Some methods only last a day, which left me a bit discouraged and seeking a longer lasting method to safely secure my hair units and without the worry.

Enter two known methods: BMB and Cling products. Let’s begin with my intro. This should be fun🎈🎈🎈

So I am fulfilling what I said I was going to do, and that was to launch my own YouTube Channel. On top of all ready being nervous about sharing with the world via social media, I would get comments from family members on how ‘to’ and ‘not to’ act.  Uhhh…nope, not having it.

I enjoy sharing my free spirit with my viewers. No I’m not always sweet and no, I won’t always bat my eyelashes like a damn bunny, but I’m doing what’s most important….being myself. Yes,  I curse a little, but being yourself does not request approval and I am sure there will be people out there who will respect that. I respect the spirit world and everyone’s opinion – this is blog and my YouTube Channel are my places to share mine. Now….with that being said….I don’t know if I shared this video yet but here it is:

I’ll be posting another soon, hopefully this evening. Enjoy!!!!!

Stash it or Trash it: H2O/Freeman/Black Radiance bronzer

Hi Everyone!!!

Okay, before I get ugly comments about this ‘Stash or Trash’ review, let me say that I determine what should be stashed or trashed by my own review, not what someone else says. I know there are people out there who love to use these products, but there are some of the products that these companies make that’s not intended for everyone. With that being said, check out my video!!! I truly love making them and love receiving comments from you. Subscribe so you can know when I’ve uploaded more. I may even take you with me on a road trip! Here’s my latest video:
